Our carefully planned educational trips , clubs and enrichment experiences provide our pupils with opportunities to explore the world around them, bringing their learning to life in exciting and meaningful ways.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) pupils enjoy sensory-rich experiences, including visits to the Library of Birmingham, meeting animals up close, and exploring play-based learning environments like Teeny Weenies.
In Key Stage 1, pupils embark on exciting adventures, such as an immersive Titanic workshop, visits to places of worship, and exploration of local and national sites of significance. A particular highlight is our geography fieldwork trip to Weston-Super-Mare, where pupils experience a typical British seaside, linking their learning to coastal geography and tourism.
As pupils progress into Key Stage 2, their experiences become more challenging and inspiring. They participate in historical re-enactments, hands-on geography fieldwork, and visits to significant cultural and religious sites. Some of the highlights include:
- Year 3: An Ancient Egypt workshop and an immersive Stone Age experience at Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre, where pupils explore prehistoric survival skills.
- Year 4: A visit to a Roman fort and fieldwork at Sarehole Mill, linking history and geography learning.
- Year 5: Exploring the Jewellery Quarter for fieldwork and experiencing a Snowdonia residential trip in Wales.
- Year 6: A memorable school sleepover, a visit to Drayton Manor, and an enriching experience at Tatton Park.
After-School Clubs

There are usually many parents who sign up for our popular clubs, so there will sadly always be some disappointment. However, most clubs have waiting lists and if we have children dropping out, we usually contact parents who are on the lists. Some clubs are free and some ask for a fee. We always try to charge the least amount, but unfortunately, clubs do incur costs, and we try our best not to pass it on to you. However, in this day and financial climate, sometimes that is not possible.
Our after-school club run by Mrs Ashraf for working parents has a cost, and you can visit the after-school club page to find out more. Bear in mind that there may be a waiting list for this service too.
We also operate a breakfast club too, which you can find out further information about on the breakfast club page. Again, this is a popular service we provide and this can also be subject to a waiting list.
In addition to these clubs, we also run sports clubs throughout the year aimed at different year groups; a drama class run by the Rep Theatre and Debate Mate club for children in year 5 and 6 that normally runs from November to April each academic year. Most recently, the Ex Cathedra Vocal Academy has taken up residence at our school on Saturdays, offering free singing instruction to our pupils.
After-School Club (fee)

Nelson Primary School's After School Club is a small and dedicated team organised and run by Mrs Ashraf. We offer wrap-around care for children from 3.30pm to 5.30pm every weekday. The club is chargeable via our ParentPay app, with fees of £5 up to 4.30pm, £7.50 up to 5.00pm, and £10.00 up to 5:30pm.
The activities that the children do change over time, but always include time for a snack, physical exercise, games and activities, art and crafts, and reading and homework help where required.
Mrs Ashraf and her team are passionate about providing children with a fun and stimulating after school experience. They believe that all children should have the opportunity to develop their skills and talents in a safe and supportive environment.
Our After School Club is a great way for children to have fun, learn new skills, and make new friends. If you are interested in this service, please contact the school office.
Parents, please use the walkie-talkie in the parents' holding area to alert the adults in the club to your arrival. We will then escort your child to the door to be released.
This ensures that all children are safely and securely released to their parents or guardians.
