Issue 34: 8th Nov 2024 Bonfire Night

In our 34th issue, we explore the history of Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes. Additionally, Year 5 and Year 6 students share their experiences from recent educational visits while Sai introduces our new weekly "Women in Science" with Ada Lovelace-mother of programming. Zion from 5AI drew a Bonfire comic featuring our Nelson Goats.

Year 6 went on a journey to Bletchley Park, the historic site where codebreakers worked during World War II. Known as the birthplace of modern computing, Bletchley Park played a crucial role in deciphering (decoding) enemy codes, most famously the German Enigma machine.

Here's an extract from Tyler 6DC about Year 6' s visit to Bletchley Park:

On Monday, Year 6 went for a tour around the mansion of Britain’s World War II code decoders. After the tour, we had lunch. The mansion was the officers’ premises. Then the most interesting part of the day: decoding the code activity!
