Our 43th Issue: Chinese New Year 31.01.25

Happy Chinese New Year! In this week's issue, we write about the Chinese New Year origins, celebrations, traditions and Ilyas 4RR and Tyler 6DC wrote about Jackie Chan in our new Who, When and Where section. Sai 5AI wrote about Nicolaus Copernicus in her Interesting Science Fact section while Imran 4RN and Chaima 5AI wrote about the carnivals.

Kurusumu 5AI wrote about some Chinese New Year traditions:

Celebrations often include firecrackers, fireworks, and red clothes and decorations. Young people are given money in colourful red envelopes. In addition, Chinese New Year is a time to feast and to visit family members.

Chinese people consider New Year's Day a very important day. There are many taboos on this day. No washing clothes or hair or bathing. The first and second day of the lunar year is the birthday of the “Water God”, so you are not supposed to use water to show respect for the Water God.
