The Governing Body

Welcome from the Chair of Governors

Welcome to the Governance section of Nelson Primary School.
Our Governing Board works in partnership with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure every pupil receives an excellent education within a safe, supportive and ambitious environment.

Our role is to:

  • Set the school’s long-term vision, values and strategic priorities

  • Hold the headteacher and senior leaders to account for educational outcomes, safeguarding and inclusion

  • Oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure value for money

  • Represent the interests and voices of pupils, families, staff and the wider community

We are proud of the progress Nelson Primary continues to make, but we remain ambitious and fully committed to ongoing improvement. If you are interested in becoming a governor or would like more information about our work, please contact us via the school office.

Our Governing Board Structure

The Governing Board meets once every term and operates through three committees, each with delegated responsibilities:

Each committee reports directly to the Full Governing Board.

Diversity Statement

To ensure our Governing Board reflects the community we serve, we collect and review governors’ diversity data. We do not publish this information due to the small size of the board and the risk of identifying individuals.

We have a very active governing body at Nelson, and we work closely with the Headteacher, Miss Forrest, and all the staff at the school. Our role is to:

  • Set the school's aims and objectives for the long term.
  • Agree and review policies to achieve these aims and objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the school's performance both educationally and financially.
  • Challenge and support the school leadership team.

    Best regards,

Daniel Taylor Chair of Governors Nelson Primary School

“To help ensure that our governing board is reflective of the community we serve, we collect and review our governors' diversity data to help inform discussion and action. We do not currently publish this information online due to the small size of our board and the risk of inadvertently identifying an individual through the publication of their personal data.”
