Nelson Beekeepers
Our pupils buzz with excitement about beekeeping!
Our pupils and staff had the incredible opportunity to learn about beekeeping from local experts. They were suited up in proper beekeeping gear and got up close and personal with a hive of bees.
Not only did our pupils have a blast, but they also learnt about the importance of bees to our environment. Bees are essential pollinators, helping plants to grow and produce food. By keeping bees at school, we are providing them with a safe home and contributing to the health of our local ecosystem.
As a bonus, our pupils were able to harvest their very own organic honey! Each pupil went home with a pot of sweet, golden honey that they had helped to produce.
We believe that beekeeping is a wonderful way for our pupils to learn about the natural world and give back to their community. By caring for bees, we are helping to protect our planet for future generations.
Here are some additional benefits of having bees in school:
- Educational opportunities: Beekeeping provides pupils with hands-on learning experiences with science, nature, and sustainability.
- Sensory experiences: Working with bees engages pupils' senses of sight, smell, and touch.
- Therapeutic benefits: Beekeeping has been shown to have calming and stress-relieving effects.
- Community engagement: Beekeeping projects can help to connect schools with local communities and organisations.
- Environmental stewardship: By caring for bees, pupils are learning about the importance of biodiversity and taking action to protect the environment.
We are so proud of our pupils for their enthusiasm and commitment to beekeeping. We hope that this experience will inspire them to continue to learn about and care for the natural world.
